Membership

People sign up for memberships at the Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Center for many reasons.  Some members have clinical conditions or orthopedic problems that may benefit from the appropriate exercise program, and some members are generally healthy and simply wish to "get in shape" and prevent the occurrence of disease.  Regardless of the reasons our members choose to join the center, our professional staff will develop the appropriate program for them.

Upon joining the center each new member will be evaluated by one of our clinical exercise physiologists.  The evaluation is used to provide us with the necessary health information so we can develop the most effective program for each member.  During the first month of membership each member is entitled to unlimited access to the center along with two scheduled sessions a week with one of our exercise physiologists.  These eight sessions allow us to work closely with each new member and gives us the opportunity to assess their exercise program.

After completing the first month, members may choose to continue with weekly sessions or they may choose to enter into our maintenance program.  At this stage members are comfortable with their program and their ability to set up and use the equipment.  Maintenance memberships include unlimited access to the gym and require three month commitments.

Disease Management Program

Nine out of ten people in our region suffer from one of many life-threatening diseases.  Examples include cardiovascular disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity.  Managing these diseases can be difficult and costly.  Our Disease management program is simply part of our general membership.

Our clinical exercise physiologists are specially trained to work with people who have such diseases.  We will work with you to develop a program aimed to, not only control the symptoms of your disease, but also prevent the progression of your disease, and improve your overall quality of your life.

 Weight Management Program

If you take a look around, it is apparent that obesity is becoming a common problem across the entire country.  Unfortunately obesity not only affects the way we look it also increases our risk for many life threatening diseases.  With so much recent focus on obesity weight loss programs are popping up all over.  Most of these programs incorporate temporary changes simply aimed at quick weight reduction and fail to address the lifestyle habits that have created the problem.   People can usually lose weight on these programs but tend to gain it back once they stop they stop and return to their normal eating habits.

The weight management program at the Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Center is an eight week program designed to assist members in making the appropriate lifestyle changes to not only lose weight but keep it off.  The program consists of weekly classes that focus on nutrition, exercise and behavior management.  Classes meet once a week and last bout 45 minutes.  Each member is evaluated before and after the program.  Evaluations include body weight, BMI, circumference measurements, body composition, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood glucose.

Cervical Neck and Low Back Program

Studies show that eight out of ten people will experience some type of spine related pain whether it be from the cervical neck region or the low back.  The Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Center will perform a comprehensive assessment to every new member that is designed to:

Evaluate and identify posture and movement

Using the state of the art technology we will electronically measure range of motion and strength ability to upper and lower extremities.   These measures this will help identify current functional patterns that may be creating pain responses to the neck and back. We reassess these measures at 4 to 8 week intervals to insure progress.

Centralize Neck or Back pain

As these patterns are identified we are able to determine a specific pattern that will attempt to centralize pain to specific regions of the spine so that healing and recovery may take place.

Improve Functional Mobility

Once pain is centralized, we will advance the therapeutic exercises to a higher, but tolerable level that will serve as endurance treatments to prevent loss of the correct functional pattern.

Maintenance and prevention

As the clients have decreased their pain to near normal functional levels. It is essential they maintain the newly learn pattern to help prevent recurrence. The therapeutic exercises will serve as a practice tool to help maintain the principles that were taught and implemented in phase II and III our program.

Fitness and weight loss.

Not only can the spine program help develop better posture, musculoskeletal awareness and prevention of pain, but once pain is controlled, these exercises can be altered to allow a challenge and necessary component that will help each client to advance their goals toward better fitness, nutrition, and overall healthy lifestyle.
